Site-specific installation in a hotel swimming pool

Enlargement of a tourist postcard printed in high quality on perforated fabric

This installation consists of an image of an enlarged fragment of a postcard submerged in a hotel swimming pool. The postcard, which belongs to the Planas Archive and was produced in the 1970s, shows the swimming pool of the same hotel where it was installed. This image entitled ‘2791 million liters of water’ reflects on the scarcity of water resources on an island where swimming pools have been and continue to be a symbol of status and social well-being in the Anthropocene. The data were extracted from a scientific and metadata study for this artistic project in the framework of the Observatory of Tourist Culture // COSTA. The submerged image tells us about the layers of memory and history. A fossil of tourist culture from an ecological perspective.
